Curator’s note: A Luminary Embrace: The Essence of Connection
The Everlasting Hug from the Roumelight lighting collection epitomises refined elegance through its masterful synthesis of design, simplicity, and form. Seven meticulously crafted lines, etched upon a metal canvas, present a sculptural interpretation of contemporary sensibility, captivating the discerning eye with their artful arrangement. This schematic representation of an affectionate embrace between two figures eloquently conveys the essence of human connection.
The number seven, imbued with profound significance since antiquity, holds a revered position across diverse cultures. Considered a prime number, it is endowed with particular intrigue within the realms of religion, mythology, superstition, and philosophy. Throughout history, it has been associated with a wealth of symbolism, representing perfection, excellence, and wholeness, and is inextricably linked with fundamental values (the seven virtues, the seven deadly sins, et cetera). Within Western culture, it is often regarded as an auspicious emblem.
As Vasilios Roumeliotis, the esteemed artist and founder of Roumelight, elucidates regarding his creative vision: ‘Here, seven lines coalesce to form a tender embrace, a visual testament to the very essence of life’s inherent worth.’
This embrace endures for as long as the luminaire remains illuminated, a soft, warm white light emanating from the metal canvas, creating an enchanting frame upon the wall.
The Everlasting Hug lighting piece achieves a harmonious confluence of form, function, and illumination, with the seven delicate lines accentuating, completing, and embracing its exquisite design.
Installation Notes:
The current piece in stock features a gold-champagne finish. The reverse of the metal canvas remains unpainted, exhibiting the raw sheet metal with a natural patina of rust. However, the artist’s original conception envisioned the entire work, including the champagne façade, bearing the distinctive aesthetic and texture of rust, thereby bestowing upon the piece a unique and compelling allure. Should one desire, the reverse of the canvas may be painted in any chosen colour. Furthermore, a bespoke commission, encompassing alterations in dimensions, canvas colouration, and emitted light, is entirely feasible.
Professional technical assistance for the assembly and installation of this luminary work is strongly recommended.
