Curator’s note: An imaginary moment of a ventriloquist’s scene, inspired by Victor Hugo’s historical masterpiece novel ‘Les Misérables’. On the right, a dwarf puppet can be seen, the ventriloquist’s prop. Along with a carefully mixed depiction of his own portrait as a teenager, the painter creates a sensation of mystery and revelation by making use of a soft shadow colour range and creating a lively contrast with the lighter spots.
